|
|
Guys,
I am off to Almeria, Spain in a couple of weeks time for 4 days (3 days on track) and have a tyre question. The temp is currently 20 degs and I am told the track surface is tough on tyres.
The standard rear tyre for my bike (gixxer thou' k4) is a 190/50 and Diablo Corsas would be my normal choice for road / trackday combos.
As I will purely be on the track, however, I am now thinking of Super Corsa Pros (SC1 or 2). or even Dragon slicks (SC1 or 2), STW, but they both only come in either 190/55 (which means removing my hugger to get the extra space), or 180/55 which may give better turn in.
What is the down side of 180/55s? Will they impact on lean angle / edge grip?
Any views?
I have to pre order the tyres on Tuesday |

A narrower tyre loses you straight line stability but allows for a quicker turn in. I usually run a 180 on the ZX7 but the recommended is 190. Until I get to semi ballistic speed, about 130 mph, I do not notice any instability.
I sufggest that you go for SC's out there. If you have not ridden on slicks before it may not be adviseable to try now.
I hope you have a great time out there, I wish I could have fitted a trip like that in. _________________ MUTANT NINJA HERO

Thanks Chuffster (and for your replys elsewhere).
I will go for the SC Pros in a medium / medium (hards not being available) but probably on 190s. This track has a 1km straight and will be fast and my corner entry speed is not yet what it should be so I will go for the straight line stability.
