MotoGP rookie Randy de Puniet apparently surprised his ne Kawasaki team with an immediate turn of speed in testing at Sepang yesterday.

The Frenchman is stepping up in class after four seasons in the 250cc class. Apparently he stunned Kawasaki by almost matching the lap times set by his team mate Shinya Nakano.

Team boss Harald Eckl was quoted as saying 'I was surprised at just how quickly Randy has adapted to the bike in such a short space of time'.


Personally, I would have thought that they took him on board to be competitive, so, why all the surprise?
