Just a quick update to cheer Jon up a bit.
The bike went back together on saturday night and starts/runs but something is wrong as the left side is very cold whilst the right is very hot. Everything is firing and fuelled. Soooo...
Its going to bob farnhams dyno on Saturday so he can look at the whole package and get it right - ready to be collected on the way to Lydden on wednesday night. Another last minute job...
on the plus side the camper is now fixed (£500) aand will be ok for the weekend.
Jon - stick with it mate - but please stay away from T-bikes as I have enough problems as it is.... ) |

Was good to see you and Pam at the weekend Wal, you were missed out in the paddock. I can not believe that the tale of woe still continues! At least the camper is fixed, perhaps they will let you enter that........
Fingers crossed once more that the 400 gets running right. And don't forget to take your wets, the longer term forecast for the next few weeks is not briliant _________________ MUTANT NINJA HERO

The camper prolly goes faster and as it is 4x4 will deal with gravel traps well. |

ps do you not think it might be cheaper to buy Bob Farnhams business and employ him permanently? _________________ Feel the Fear....AND DO IT ANYWAY!

You are sooooooo gonna see those 4 exhaust pipes.
Bob Farnham and the camper man (Colin) are now close personal friends and I am buying them both new houses.
I hear you are not practising @ Lydden? Is that wise??? |

Now now, you are supposed to friends, its my job to wind you lot up.
As for Steve Joy's Ducatti, was that smokin going round paddock? Chad ashmis one was doing that, it was running standard suspension and where he is of largish proportions, the poor old suspension didn't take kindly to the pressure put on it. He landed up with a groove in the rear tyre, good thing it was short races.........
So how are you going to nobble that steely 600 then Dave? _________________ MUTANT NINJA HERO

Wal - Lydden takes about 3 laps to re-learn, whats the point of practising?
Chuff - reckon we'll have to nobble that 600 whilts still in the Paddock, plus both Paul and Martin are now having big bore motors installed. Its going to be very competitive. Plus I'm sure Chad and the other 748s will only get quicker.

I am still not convinced about the big bore SV motor, but I shall see. If Wittey struggled to beat his SV times, that really does make me doubt its the right move. I would have thought that lightening the bike was a better move. Especially the unsprung weight. That steely seemed very quick off the line, thats virtually where he won it from. If you can stay with him off the line, you may well land up getting the better of him. _________________ MUTANT NINJA HERO

Only time will tell. the new motor will be well up on torque as well as overall power and that will certainly help. Weight reductions will happen especially the gsxr front end. Dymags....if you see some cheap let me know!!

Leave the steely 600 to the strokers.... we'll get 'im in the bar....
I am working the BIKE weight angle - obviously rider and bike is a package but it seems to me that power, if the same, makes not much difference for acceleration out of corners. The real weight difference is in lateness and speed of braking.
eg wal plus bike = 240 KG, power = 80hp.
dave plus bike = 260 kg, power = 80hp.
gives wal a small advantage out of corners..... if you assume we corner at the same speed which is probably right.
but deceleration under braking is wildly different because even going at max speed for an additional 20 yards (see twist of the wrist) makes a massive difference and my gsxr barkes are absolutely frightening so add a few more yards.
In short - the same out of the corners but my theory is that I should sail past under braking... we'll see.
Oh and the bike has to actually last the full 7 laps......... probably the main challenge.
BTW re: testing. as I recall Lydden is a little trickier that you make out, or is that pot...ier.... |
