I'm pondering a leap into the unknown with running a 748 in Thunderbikes next year - any thoughts?

Have you decided who is going to ride it yet? Laughing

Go for it Wal. I may well be in Thunderbikes alongside you. Not sure that I would pick a Ducatti though, not the most reliable of machines by any stretch of the imagination. They are also not cheap to run in parts etc, lots of servicing and the like.

I love the idea of racing a 748, but reckon the budget and time element might be a bit prohibitive. Can't see it being as robust as the SV. What power do they put out?

Is there a cheap supply of the inevitable list of spares?

Ducatti and Cheap should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

We could all get Buells, they sometimes manage a lap, so we could have one lap sprint races...........

In all seriousness, have a word with Steve Jordan, I hear on the grapevine that he is contemplating selling thunderbike packages. Not sure what this will comprise of yet, but I really think I shall be having words with him.

I don't doubt Steve's ability but in my neck of the woods it would be James Holland. He has supplied loads of pumped up SVs for racing in the States and so has lots of experience on how to get the most out of the bikes.

My old bike seems to have as much power as the latest kit so clearly he knows what he is doing.

I think he may also work on Dukes.

I thought James was still off work after his horrific injuries sustained earlier in the year?

Personally, I am thinking of studying the rules and going the 400 route. I much prefer multiple cyclinders. There are plenty of ZXR400's available, which would be fine for me.

Yeah but if Dukes start racing then Red will definitely be the fastest colour!

Is that faster than the Buell in the breaking down stakes?

I do like the Thunderbike Class, lots of different bikes are eligable, that means you can find something that you are suited to and get on with. So if going that route myself, I have a sneaky feeling it wont be an SV, it may well be something green though Laughing

'Now these things are certainly not the fastest bikes on the track, they are very noisy, they vibrate, they grate and rattle, They cut out when it rains, the clutches burn out, the rectifiers blow up and can catch fire, the timing belts snap and the valves smash into the pistons, the rear brake pumps itself up locking the back wheel up, the clutch hub nut vibrates loose, the cush drive rubber breaks up and eats away at the swinging arm, the timing idler gear nut comes loose and breaks up, The alternator nut vibrates loose and destroys the crankshaft, the gearbox can have up to 3 neutrals, clutch slave cylinders would be better suited to a pushbike, front sprocket retainer wears out and the sprocket falls off, the hard chrome on the rocker arms is made of tin foil, the engine creates so much condensation that after a meeting the water in my catch tank can be used to wash the bike down with and nuts and bolts fall off if not locktited on. '

Says it asll really. Sounds better going agricultural and getting a mule!

Ooooops, slip of the keys there, that was supposed to be Buell. Likening a Buell to a Mule is probably not a good thing, I reckon a Mule is more reliable and has some use in life........
